The Iris Prize was born out of the desire to create an annual international short film prize that would recognise, celebrate and promote gay and lesbian moving image content and which would also promote tolerance, acceptance and further understanding of gay and lesbian filmmaking.
...And Why Iris?
Iris is the God of the rainbow - now universally adopted as a symbol of sexual diversity. She is also a messenger - story telling through film is also a means of communicating the film makers' message.
