Dream Boy

Screening as part of the Iris Prize Festival 08, details here.

The American rural south in the late 70s is the backdrop to this tender and tragic love story between two gay teenagers. Nathan, who has just moved into the area with his family, is transfixed by the handsome neighbour Roy, but is initially too shy to make the first move. When Roy suggests they study together, soon enough they are sneaking away into the woods to make out. Nathan often finds himself sleeping in the woods trying to avoid his father’s sexual abuse. Roy on the other hand comes from a more loving and stable background. Based on the acclaimed novel by Jim Grimsley which received the American Library Association's Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Book Award for Literature.
