2012 SUBMISSIONS OPEN! – 13 JANUARY 2012

Iris invites film makers to follow in the footsteps of…..

• Dee Rees – the inaugural Iris Prize Winner whose feature Pariah is thrilling audiences in the US

Submissions are now open for the 2012 Iris Prize Festival. The Cardiff (UK) based Festival, which takes place from 10th – 14th October 2012, presents three awards:

• Iris Prize - Cardiff's International gay and lesbian short film prize.
The Iris Prize, will allow the winner to make their next short film in the UK. The prize is the world’s largest gay and lesbian short film prize and is open to any short film which is by, for, about or of interest to gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or intersex audiences.

• Best UK Short
The winner of the Best UK Short will be invited to be a member of the 2013 Iris Prize International Jury as a guest of the festival.

• Iris Prize Best Feature Award
The winner of the best feature film award will receive £1,000. The award is sponsored by Martin Briggs, Independent Financial Adviser.

“The Iris Prize is the only LGBT short film prize in the world which allows the winner to make a new film. Iris is more than just a trophy that gathers dust or a certificate that yellows on the wall. Iris is what film makers need – funding, support and guidance,” said Iris Prize founder, Berwyn Rowlands.

“I’m very proud of our track record in supporting new talent. To date two Iris Productions have been completed starting with the inaugural winner, US filmmaker Dee Rees and Colonial God’s and Germany’s Till Klienert (pictured above with Russell T Davies), with his award winning short Boys Village. We are in post production with Eldar Rapaport from Israel with Little Man and look forward later in 2012 to work with Magnus Mork from Norway on the fourth Iris Production which as yet is untitled,” added Berwyn.
