Criteria
Iris Prize Guidelines
All entries should be by, for, about or of significant interest to gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or intersex audiences and must have been completed within 2 years prior to the submission deadline. (That is they must have been completed between 5 July 2008 and 2 July 2010.)
Any short film of 35 minutes or less which meets these criteria will be eligible for The Iris Prize 2010. The winner of The Iris Prize 2010 will be invited back to the United Kingdom to make another short film using a package of services and facilities valued at £25 000.
Any short film of 35 minutes or less which is made by a film maker who is a United Kingdom citizen or who has been resident in the United Kindgom for at least three years prior to the submission deadline will also be eligible for the Skillset Best UK Short Award.
Any feature film will be eligible for the Iris Prize Best Feature Award which is a £1 000 cash prize kindly sponsored by Martin Briggs Independent Financial Adviser. The recipient of this Award is decided by a ballot of the Friends of Iris

All short film entries must be no longer than 35 minutes in length.
We’re sorry but any short film shortlisted for Iris 2009 is ineligible to compete.
A fully completed entry form and submission fee must accompany each submission (short or feature). If you are submitting more than one film, please supply a separate submission form for each entry.
DVD is the preferred format for submission viewing copies (but we are also able to view VHS tapes). All viewing copies must be clearly labelled with the title of the work, running time, filmmaker’s name and contact details. Please test consumer burned DVDs on several DVD players prior to submitting your work.
If shortlisted, you must be able to submit your work to be exhibited on film (35mm only), DigiBeta PAL, Beta SP or DVD. (Note we cannot exhibit using other video or any NTSC formats.)
Please ensure that you submit everything listed on the Check List noted at the bottom of the submission form. Production information, Director’s Biography and image, and film stills are essential publicity materials. Please ensure that all images are of the highest quality possible. Any images emailed must be JPEG or TIFF format and at least 1200 x 900 pixels .
Updated versions of submitted short films will not be accepted after the submission deadline date, Friday 2 July 2009
The Festivals Company Limited and the Iris Prize accept no responsibility for the loss or damage of any submission viewing copies or supporting materials, or any exhibition material whilst in transit.
Works in languages other than English must be subtitled for exhibition. English subtitles are strongly preferred for submission viewing copies, but works without subtitles will be accepted for consideration.
Successful entrants will be informed that their work has been shortlisted by early September 2010.

The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
If you wish to have your preview DVD, or any supporting promotional material, returned to you, please include a stamped addressed envelope or international reply coupon along with your submission. Viewing by the pre-selection jury will take place in July 2010 and no material can be returned before the completion of the pre-selection. (Please note the Iris Prize will retain submission copies of shortlisted entries).

The deadline for submissions is Friday 2 July, 2010. The Withoutabox Late Deadline is 16 July 2010. No work will be accepted after this date.
Terms and Conditions
We're sorry there has to be some small print but we try and keep it to the minimum. Please read through it carefully as by submitting your work to us you're agreeing to this.
1. All entries should be by, for, about or of significant interest to gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or intersex audiences and must have been completed within 2 years prior to the submission deadline. (That is they must have been completed between 3 July 2008 and 2 July 2010.)
2. A short film is defined as a moving image work having a running time of 35 minutes or less. Any work with a longer running time will be considered a feature.
3. There are three awards:
- The Iris Prize will be awarded by the international jury to the short film that in their opinion represents the best of those works shortlisted for the Prize;
- The Skillset Best UK Short award will be given by the international jury to the best short film made by a United Kingdom citizen or UK resident of 3 or more years;
- The Iris Prize Best Feature Award will be awarded to the most popular feature film in the programme as decided by a ballot of the Friends of Iris.
4. All entrants must certify that appropriate copyright clearances for public exhibition of the work in the United Kindgom has been obtained. Failure to do so will result in the entry being disqualified.
5. By submitting your work to the Iris Prize Festival, you grant The Festivals Company Limited a non-exclusive licence to exhibt your work (if selected) theatrically during the 2010 Iris Prize Festival and as part of a video-on-demand programme within the United Kingdom for one month after the theatrical screnning. In addition you also grant The Festivals Company Limited a non-exculsive licence to use an excerpt of your submission upto two minutes in length for promotional purposes only and without limitation as to time in all media including but not limited to internet and television broadcast.
6. It is the intention of the Iris Prize to compile all a selection of the shortlisted entries for the Prize to be made available as a package to festivals worldwide to promote Iris and the shortlisted entries. By entering your work, you agree to have your entry included as part of the package (exceptions can be made if distribution rights have been sold in certain territories).
7. The Iris Prize Festival, The Iris Prize and The Friends of Iris are trading styles of The Festivals Company Limited. The Festivals Company Limited reserves the right to vary the programme and detail of the Iris Prize Festival and Iris Prize competition in the light of commercial, economic or other operating requierements.
8. The International Jury will comprise film makers and film industry personnel invited by The Festivals Company to fulfil the duties allocated to them. The decision of the Jury and The Festivals Company will be final.
9. The Iris Prize Festival takes place in Cardiff, Wales – part of the United Kingdom. All terms and conditions will be interpreted according to the laws of England and Wales.
