Welcome to Cardiff, Wales’ capital city and the proud home of the Iris Prize LGBT+ Film Festival.

The past few decades have seen Cardiff grow into a vibrant and youthful city, with everything you’d expect of a modern capital, including world-class music, theatre and sport – all with a distinct Welsh flavour. Cardiff welcomes visitors from around the world, who take time to appreciate the wide range of entertainment – and impressive array of Welsh flags!

The city centre is an eclectic mix of old and new, full of bars, parks, museums, shopping, theatres, cinemas and – of course! – a castle. Cardiff Bay, with its lively selection of bars and restaurants and views across the water, is the perfect place to spend a sunny evening – and yes, we do have some of them. Honest.

Naturally, Iris loves showing off the best of Cardiff’s LGBT+ scene to Iris guests, which is focused on two main areas in the city centre – Charles Street and Churchill Way.  Each features a lively assortment of bars and clubs and just a stone’s throw from our festival venue Cineworld. The city is home to Wales’s only gay rugby team, The Cardiff Lions RFC and also plays host to Wales’ largest pride event. Pride Cymru, which takes place in August each year and attracts thousands of visitors to the city.
