Welcome to Cardiff, Wales’ capital city and the proud home of the Iris Prize LGBT+ Film Festival.
During our annual film festival in Cardiff, Iris loves showing off the best of Cardiff’s LGBT+ scene to visitors from around the world. Cardiff’s gay nightlife is focused on two main areas in the city centre – Charles Street and Churchill Way. Each features a lively assortment of bars and clubs and just a stone’s throw from our festival venue Cineworld. The city is also plays host to Wales’ largest pride event, Pride Cymru, which takes place in August each year.
The past few decades have seen Cardiff grow into a vibrant and youthful city, with everything you’d expect of a modern capital, including world-class music, theatre and sport – all with a distinct Welsh flavour. Cardiff welcomes visitors from around the world, who take time to appreciate the wide range of entertainment.
The city centre is an eclectic mix of old and new, full of bars, parks, museums, shopping, theatres, cinemas and – of course – a castle. Cardiff Bay, with its lively selection of bars and restaurants and views across the water, is the perfect place to spend a sunny evening – and yes, we do have some of them. Honest.
